Governor, First Lady participate in closing ceremony of Red Cross Mela | | | JAMMU, Feb 7 : Governor N. N. Vohra, who is also the President of Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu and Kashmir, along with Usha Vohra, First Lady, visited the 'Red Cross Mela' at Gulshan Grounds, Jammu. Observing that the philanthropic work being done by the Red Cross in J&K requires the availability of adequate resources, the Governor emphasized the usefulness of Melas and similar events being organized by the District and Regional Red Cross Societies to raise funds and contributions. Appreciating the activities carried out by the State Red Cross Society during the past months, the Governor said that much more needs to be done for mobilizing larger resources so that the whole State can be abuzz with the activities of the organization. The Governor also stressed the need for the objectives of the Red Cross being always kept in mind and for its trained Volunteers to be always at hand in the event of any kind of emergency, disaster or calamity. He complimented the trained Volunteers of the Society in always staying ahead to lend a helping hand to those in distress. On the occasion first three winners of the Raffle draw were also announced. On the occasion a very colourful cultural programme was presented which included a classical dance by Meenakshi Wazir and a regional dance by students of BSF Higher Secondary School, Paloura. Dr. Pawan Kotwal, Divisional Commissioner Jammu (Chairman Indian Red Cross Society-Jammu Region) presented the Welcome Address and a Vote of Thanks was presented by R.C. Puri, Honorary Secretary, Regional Red Cross Society, Jammu. Roma Wani, Honorary General Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu and Kashmir; Rakesh Sharma, IG BSF; Simrandeep Singh, Deputy Commissioner Jammu; Uttam Chand, Senior Superintendent of Police Jammu were among those present on the occasion. |
