Early Times Report

Bhaderwah, Feb 7: Residents of Shiva area which is based on thousands of populations, driven by the belief that self-help is the best help, will turn hundreds metres of a slushy, muddy road into a concrete stone on path one after their repeated appeals to improve it fell on deaf ears of the elected representatives.
As all the previous and present elected representatives and administration fell short of meeting their promises to repair the stretch, residents living in the area are carrying spades and baskets and began work on the road.
The local residents will also construct side drains to put an end to years of inconvenience. Local villagers say condition of the road of Shiva to Ghursu, Allalbhani, Shaja, Chakrabhatii is poor for last seven years, causing a host of problems for local people, particularly patients.
They say they have asked the elected lawmakers from the area and the Public Works Department and PMGSY officers that are responsible for the job, but to no avail. Finally local people decided to start work on renovation of the road themselves. A local resident Gulam Mohd Wani told that the condition of the road was terrible as travel of 30 to 35 minutes took hours on this route.
"We are working to renovate it for the last two months. We want the administration and elected representatives of all political parties included Sarpanchs to learn a lesson from our work", he said.
Asif Naik, another resident who working voluntary said "We face more problems during the rainy season. Our children slip and suffer injuries while going to school. Moreover, people living here face problem while going downhill to work in the Doda city. We had moved the concerned department and our local legislator several times but no one came forward to help us even during elections. So, we decided to build the road ourselves."
Another villager Sajad Wani said that they decided to join hands as no help came from the PWD, PMGSY, administration and all parties leaders despite repeated requests and appeals.
