5 sheep killed, 10 injured while one beast was also found dead | Man-wild conflict | | Early Times Report Ramban, Feb 8: Panic has gripped in several parts of Ramban district after the reports of prowling leopards in the uppers reaches of district for last many days resulting in reported death of five sheep and atleast 10 were injured. Meanwhile reports added that one wild beast was also found dead in Btadgadi above Panthial area of Ramsu last evening According to reports, a leopard killed five sheep and mauled other 10 belinging to one Shamlal Gaddi at Sundgali above the Maitra area of Ramban early morning today. As per locals, the leopard scare have also been reported from Tringla, Kothri, Gami, Boonbadi villages of Batote tehsil where a team of Wild Life Department led by Range Officer,Mansur Ahmed Khan, have been patrolling for trapping the leopards and have been distributing the crackers among the villagers to scare the beasts.' "Two prowling leopards have created panic among villagers," reports said. Expressing his grief over the incident the former MLA,Ramban, Ashok Kumar has urged the government to pay suitable compensation to Shamlal for his loss and also demanded the adequate supply of traps and tranquilizer gun besides posting of sufficient staff in the Wild Life Department here. "Meanwhile a carcass of an adult leopard was found in a deep forest area of Btadgadi above Panthial area of Ramsu late last evening, "The leopard was suspected to have died of a fall on a heap of sharp edged stones, reports said. They said the postmortem of the dead animal was yet to be conducted. |
