Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Feb 8: Leaders of Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) are building 'castles' in the air by claiming that the party has extended its reach across the Kashmir valley and it would come out with flying colours from Kashmir in the next assembly elections, as and when those are held in the state.
A leader of BJP 'crossed' all the limits today by claiming that the party would at least win 10 seats from Kashmir valley in the next assembly elections. This BJP leader who is Member of Legislative Council (MLC) claimed that the party has extended its reach across the length and breadth of Kashmir and it has emerged as one of the strong political parties in Kashmir.
Sources told Early Times that there is a strong wave against BJP in the Jammu region and the party has minimum footprints in the Kashmir valley. They said that the party has been rejected by people of Jammu region and in order to 'save their skin' the party leaders are claiming that they have made inroads in Kashmir valley.
"The BJP leaders could not get the people affected by shelling from across the border rehabilitated at safer places over the past 10 months or so.
This is despite the fact that the party is in power at the centre and it shared the government with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state from March 1, 2015 to January 7, 2016," said sources.
It would be in place to mention here that Minister of State (MoS) in Prime Minister's Office (PMO), Dr. Jitendra Singh had some time back expressed dismay that the revenue department has not transferred 80 kanals of land that had been identified for the rehabilitation of 320 families affected by shelling from across the border in the Hira Nagar area of Kathua district.
"In the 2014 assembly elections the BJP got huge mandate from the people of Jammu region on two counts. One due to the wave created by the persona of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and second due to the promises made by the party leaders with the people of the winter capital of the state and other adjoining districts," said sources.
Sources said that failure of BJP in rehabilitating the West Pakistan refugees and its silence on the abrogation of Article 370 are some of the issues that have alienated the party from the people of Jammu division. This has resulted into a situation wherein people no longer believe the BJP legislators and the other party members.
'It has been observed that political parties' claim that thousands are associated with it and the same thing is happening with BJP as far as Kashmir is concerned.
Let the party organize a rally in the city centre and all their claims would be exposed. Not more than 1,000 people would participate in the rally provided there is no coercion or money factor involved in the whole episode," said sources.
