JAMMU, Feb 8: People in certain areas of Jammu region are alleged to be getting poor-quality of flour from the government ration depots, but CAPD department is not bothered. While the flour is supplied to government depots by flour mills where CAPD supervisors are deployed to keep a check on the quality of grains and flour. It was, however, surprising to note that despite their presence in the mills, poor-quality flour was being supplied to the ration depots, official sources said. As per norms, during the grinding of PDS wheat, commercial section should not function but some millers were running the two sections simultaneously as a result of which the quality of PDS atta was getting affected badly, the sources added. The sub-standard atta, which was available at some ration depots in Udhampur, Reasi, Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban districts, contained 60 pc flour and 40 pc bran, sources alleged, saying instead of using this atta for themselves, people were giving it to cattle. While people had taken up this matter with CAPD authorities a number of times, they had not bothered to take action, sources said. The people have urged the governor to intervene and help them get justice. Despite repeated attempts, Director CAPD, Jammu, G S Chib could not be contacted. |
