JAMMU, Feb 9: The state climbers, who took part in the just concluded 11th St. Stephen's Open Sport Climbing Competition held at Easwaran Memorial climbing wall in the Stephen's College at national capital, returned with three silver and three bronze medals. The girls' category, wherein Shilpa Charak and Shivani Charak were competing, witnessed a fierce competition in both the rounds of Lead climbing. Finally, Shivpreet Pannu of Punjab, a national medalist, emerged victorious and Shilpa and Shivani had to contend with second and third place respectively. Similarly, in the Open women event of Lead climbing, Shivpreet again secured the gold while Shivani and Shilpa bagged silver and bronze respectively for J&K. However, Shivani added third medal to her kitty when she performed well to clinch a bronze in Speed climbing in the Open women category also. The third J&K climber, Aman Dogra, national champion in Speed, though completely out of form, did well to secure third spot in Boys Lead climbing. The three J&K climbers, Shivani, Shilpa and Aman were awarded a cash prize of Rs 4300, Rs 2400 and Rs. 1000 respectively. Prominent among others present on the felicitation function included general secretary, Ram Khajuria and joint secretary, Shawetica Khajuria of Mountaineering Association of J&K; Directors of Sprawling Buds School, Rahul Sharma and Arti Sharma; Satish Bhan and Akshi. |
