BJP Govt 'facilitates' separatists' meetings with Pak envoy | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Feb 10: As if the latest lesson taken from the recent terror strike on Pathankot airfield was not enough, the BJP government in the Centre seems to be busy facilitating meetings between Kashmiri separatist leaders and their Pakistani handlers right in the national capital. In the past few days, at least two senior separatist leaders held talks with the Pakistani High Commissioner Abdul Basit in New Delhi. While Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq who enjoys a 'Z-category' security, was allowed to freely call on Basit at the Pakistan embassy, the latter was allowed to hold secret talks with Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani. Basit met Geelani at Malviya Nagar. Sources said Geelani, a staunch supporter of militancy, demanded that Pakistan should strengthen its support for the "Kashmir cause." This all has happened in the last two days at a time when both the separatist leaders have trained guns on India and openly issue brazen statements against the democratic republic. On one hand the BJP has been claiming that no anti-national activities would be allowed on the Indian soil, whereas the centre has been silent on the continued talks between the separatists and Pakistan. Observers said Delhi police is under the direct control of the Union Home ministry led by Rajnath Singh and that he should have asked the cops to be vigilant on the activities of separatist leaders camping in New Delhi. "The silence of Delhi police on the controversial activities of the separatist leaders is a clear-cut indication that police has got instructions to be silent," said a security analyst. The central government has been lenient towards the separatists at a time when Pakistan continues to target India through terror strikes. Intelligence inputs have already vindicated that the Jehadi terrorists who attacked Pathankot air base in January had conducted mocks drills at an airbase in Pakistan, in what could confirm the active collaboration of the Pak military and ISI in the fidayeen assault. Highly-placed intelligence sources said they came to the chilling determination on the basis of intelligence intercepts and from contacts in jehadi groups. They said the extensive training session at one of the Pakistani airbases included several dry runs of breaching the security perimeter: a lesson the terrorists put to lethal use when they managed to enter the Pathankot base. The use of weapons, including UBLs, or under barrel guns- improvised versions of AK -47 assault rifles which can be used as mortar launchers- point to the rigorous planning which went into the attack that had set back the prospect of a fresh effort at normalization of ties between India and Pakistan. Though Pakistan subsequently failed to coordinate with India over the investigations into the terror strikes, New Delhi fails to shed the soft corner for the neighboring country and its sympathizers. |
