After snowfall, Anantnag admn issues 'avalanche warning'

Anantnag, Feb 11: Authorities today have issued avalanche warning in Anantnag and Kulgam districts of south Kashmir after snow spell that broke two months dry spell in Valley. Besides this, the administration also has set up a control room to help the people in case of natural calamity due to snowfall.
District Information Officer Shakoor Ahmad in an issued statement quoting Deputy Commissioner Anantnag asked people living in avalanche prone areas of Anantnag and Kulgam district to not venture in such areas.
According official communique, administration has set up a control room to help the people in case of natural calamity due to snowfall. "People residing in hilly areas of both the southern districts have been asked to contact Control Room (919868891801), the official added.
According to an officer, authorities have received Avalanche warning from SASE Chandigarh.
"Avalanche Warning is valid for next 24 hrs from 11 Feb 2016 (1700 hrs) to 12 Feb 2016 (1700 hrs) for the following areas: J&K (a) Medium danger for avalanche prone areas of Anantnag, Kulgam," reads the communication.
Taking precautionary measures, the authorities have advised People not to venture in avalanche prone areas during above mentioned period.
Official sources told Early Times that Jammu Kashmir Police, CRPF, Army and teams of SDRF teams are ready to meet any challenge due to heavy snowfall.
Notable to mention here, the higher reaches of Kashmir Valley including the famous ski-resort Gulmarg and famous hill resort Pahalgam today witnessed fresh snowfall.
The Meteorological Department has predicted wet weather for the next two days in Kashmir.
Jammu-Srinagar national highway, the only road-link connecting the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country has been closed by the authorities in view of the snowfall at Jawahar tunnel, an official added while talking to media persons.
