Overloading in Sumo taxis go on unabated

Early Times Report

POONCH, Feb 12 : Though the traffic police often claims that it is leaving no stone unturned in regulating and streamlining traffic movement in Poonch district but the assertions, it seems, are mere an eyewash as the rules and laws incorporated in Motor Vehicle Act are being brazenly flouted.
Despite making claims of checking the menace of overloading, it is going on unabated in Poonch district as the traffic department has literally turned a blind eye to one of the biggest threats to road safety as overloading is most common reason behind fatal road accidents. Tata Sumo operating from Poonch to Banwat, Sathra to Jandrolla, Mandi to Fatehpur, Mandi to Salonia, Poonch to Islamabad and many other areas are boarding passengers more than the sanctioned capacity; however, the Traffic police is unable to book the offending drivers.
