7 died 9 injured in banihal road mishap

BANIHAL, Feb 13 : Seven labourers engaged with General Reserve Engineering Force (GREF) of project BEACON were killed and nine others sustained critical injuries when a GREF tipper carrying them plunged into Shearbibi Banihal on Jammu Srinagar highway in Banihal today evening.
Police sources said, "The deceased have been identified as Gh Rasool Wani, his brother Gh Nabi s/o Fathai Mohammad Wani, Nazir Ahmed Bhat s/o Gh Nabi Bhat, Mohammad Ishfaq s/o Gh Nabi Wani, Mushtaq Ahmed Khandey s/o Ab Razak Khanday (all residents of village Tether) Mohammad Yousf Reshi s/o fathai Reshi of Kuthtal Tethar Banihal.
Meanwhile the injured have been identified as Mushtaq Ali s/o Gul Mohammad Wani, Rafiq Ahmed Kumar s/o Habib Ullah Qmar, Ab Gani Bhat s/o Gh Rasool Bhat , Mohammad Ramzan Hajam s/o Ab Ahad, Shabir hussain s/o Mohammad Yousf Naik, Ata Mohammad s/o Ab Ahad Hajam, Mushtaq Ahmed s/o Rahim Itoo, (all residents of village Tethar Banihal) and Suna ullah Tantary s/o Ab Ahad tantary r/o Nowgam , Darshan Singh s/o Mansa Ram r/o Makerkote Banihal.
According to the police sources, all the victims engaged with the 52 Road Construction Company (GREF) were returning to their homes in a GREF Tipper regd no: DLI TBM/AN593 of (BRO) after the maintenance work of the NH44 at Maggerkot in Ramsu and it met with an accident at about 5:30 pm today.
On receiving information of accident, the troops from locally stationed Rashtriya Rifles under the aegis of the Counter Intelligence Force (Delta), police led by SHO, Banihal,Inspector, Nazir Ahmed Dar, Indian Red Cross Society volunteers of Ramsu Quick Response Team(QRT) and the villagers rushed to the spot and started rescue operation and evacuated ten injured to the Sub-District Hospital, Banihal and later the dead to the mortuary there. Of the injured seven were referred to the Sher-E-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, Srinagar.
The leader of the QRT, Shahjehan Mir alleged that the timely arrival of the ambulances and the rescue teams would have saved the lives of at least a couple of persons.
Meanwhile Police have registered a case in this record at P/S Banihal under relevant sections and started the investigations.
Many political and social leaders have expressed their shock and grief over the tragic accident and have extended their sympathies with the bereaved families.
MLA Banihal Vikar Rasool, NC district president Ramban Sajjad Shaheen, Khateeb Markazi Jami masjid Banihal Ab Ahad Masroor, Distt Secretary Congress Imteyaz Ahmed Khanday, KIsan leader Ab Majid wani and others have condoled the death of labours and also have demanded the ex gratia for the next kin of the deceased.
