Early Times Report
srinagar, Feb 13: A day after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders met the Governor N N Vohra in Jammu and sought more time from him to clear their stand on government formation in Jammu and Kashmir, BJP's coalition ally Peoples Democratic Party on Saturday claimed that it has not climbed down from its stand and government cannot be formed till Delhi announces a few Confidence Building Measures (CBMs).
Sources told Early Times that a few BJP leaders have got it conveyed to the PDP leadership that Centre is contemplating to look into the issues raised by the PDP President Mehbooba Mufti and JK may get at least one of the power projects back. "If Centre takes some CBMs there is every possibility of we again joining our hands with the BJP and going ahead but we cannot even think of forming the government if Centre doesn't respond to the demands raised by the PDP President," a PDP leader told Early Times.
On being told that BJP leaders have informed the Governor that BJP-PDP alliance is intact and new government would be in place soon, the PDP leader said, "As far as we know till now no headway has been made vis-à-vis government formation. We don't know on what basis the BJP leaders have sought more time from the Governor."
PDP insiders revealed that they have heard that BJP has decided to address some issues mentioned in the Agenda of Alliance but till now these are just speculations we haven't received any information in this connection from the BJP so far.
Sources said that nothing can be said about the government formation in Jammu and Kashmir till the BJP General Secretary Ram Madhav meets the PDP President Mehbooba Mufti and briefs her about the decisions taken by the Centre. "PDP has already rejected the suggestion of the BJP that first Mehbooba Mufti should take oath as the Chief Minister and then only negotiations on CBMs can be taken forward," sources added.
Sources within the BJP revealed that party leaders are optimistic about the government formation and many issues have been settled through back channel talks with the PDP. " Just wait for a few days you will see that new government would be at place. The issues raised by Mehbooba Mufti and her party have been discussed threadbare. We have also discussed the other possible options. One thing is clear that for BJP, PDP is the only option and alliance needs to re-stitched to make a new beginning," BJP insiders claimed.
