Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 14: The health of more than six patients undergoing treatment at GMCH here deteriorated after the saline they were administrated reacted.
It is the duty of J&K Medical Supplies Corporation to procure dextrose saline. In this case, it seems as if it has not tested the saline bottles before supplying them to the hospital.
Sources said after six patients, who were given dextrose saline drip at GMCH, complained of uneasiness, panic gripped the other wards too. The saline bottles were later replaced by the hospital administration, the sources added.
GMCH Medical Superintendent, Dr Ravinder Rattan Pal confirmed that the fluid caused reaction to some patients who were stable now. "We have replaced the fluid bottles with other bottles," he stated.
Sources alleged that the matter had been taken with the higher ups as the saline was not up to the mark and its testing report was also pending with the authorities of JKMSC.
The today's incident showed that the concerned authorities were least bother about the safety of patients who are admitted in the government hospitals, sources said.
When contacted, health minister Bali Bhagat said a committee had been constituted comprising Babila Rakwal, sdministrator of Associated hospitals, Dr Brij Mohan Gupta, HoD Pharmacology, and Dr Bela Mahajan, HoD of Microbiology.
The committee had been asked to submit its report soon and stern action would be taken if anyone was found involved in this case, he added.
He said this practice was going on in the hospital for the last one and a half months and assured that it would not happen again.
