Jammu, Apr 16: 3rd Additional Sessions Judge, Jammu, Kishore Kumar has rejected the bail application of a man who was arrested by police for allegedly raping a 70-year-old woman. According to the prosecution story, the woman on January 9, 2015 went to fields at about 8 am to attend the call of nature when Raj Singh, son of Raghnath Singh of Akhnoor, came there and allegedly caught hold of her. He allegedly forced her to lie on the ground and committed rape on her. After she approached police, a case under sections 376 and 323 of RPC was registered against the accused. After completing probe, police had presented challan in the court against the accused. The judge, after hearing the two sides, observed that the crime allegedly committed by the accused "warrants punishment of life and is considered to be a menace and threat to the society as a whole. The accused resorted to such activity which demeans psychological development of a woman and the crime of rape is not only a crime against a person, it is a crime against the whole society". With these observations, the court rejected the bail application of the accused. (JNF) |
