| Admn failed to tackle Kupwara situation | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 16: The Kupwara situation is outcome of failure of civil administration to tackle the crisis which took an ugly turn after the miscreants created havoc in Handwara town early this week by spreading an alleged molestation rumor, which later turned out to be a hoax.
The district administration and local police have been criticized for their failure in tackling the situation in a proper way from the very beginning and allowed the law and order situation to deteriorate. Sources said had the district administration right at the beginning not allowed the mob to assemble in the town and countered the propaganda of rumor mongers at its level the situation could have been defused to a great extent and the killings could have been averted.
Sources said that the police was caught napping for some time till the situation went out of control and the mob assembled in the town to create a law and order problem after trying to attack the army bunker. The administration were fully knowing that attack on army bunker will invite more trouble and situation can not only deteriorate but the violence can spread to other parts of the Valley but they ignored this aspect totally with the result the violence gripped entire Kupwara killing resulting in the death of more people.
Sources said the civil administration should have deployed police and security forces to tackle the frenzy mob and not allowed it to attack Army as the later will not look as mute spectator and retaliate to quell the violence and save its men as well as the installations from any damage. However the civil administration and police authorities failed on this front completely with the result the situation deteriorated with every passing day, sources added.
Sources said the separatist elements who are directly involved in adding fuel to fire and the role of the other political parties is also not good ass they want to take the political advantage of the situation to outwit PDP and Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti who has formed the coalition with BJP.
Commenting on Kupwara situation some political commentators said that why it does not happen prior to installation of political government in the State and why the NIT and Handwara episodes took place soon after the formation of collation government in the State.
The main reasons for this is that the separatists by creating a law and order situation is that separatists are afraid with the democratically elected government saying that this way they will go in background and they will be deprived of all aid and assistance by Pakistan and other countries funding the so-called movement in Kashmir for over last 26 years now.
To save their skin the separatists are trying to create problems for democratically elected government to give an impression that the people in Valley are for Azadi when on the ground the situation is different. Had been people with Azadi then there should have not been such a huge participation in elections every time during last two decades of turmoil. However the political pundits are also of the opinion that the Valley based politicians especially of ruling PDP should come out of the shell and take hard steps in maintaining law order in the Valley by sending a loud and clear message all around that no sort of violence will be tolerated any more as the State has suffered a great loss and hence nothing will be allowed to do which can impede the prosperity and development of the State. |
