Jammu, Apr 16: After the change of guard in Ministry of Health and Medical Education, the incumbent Minister is likely to replace principal GMC, Jammu shortly reliable sources informed Early Times on Saturday.
It pertinent to mention here that on December 2, 2015 the then Health and Medical Education Minister Choudhary Lal Singh had ordered transfer of Principal Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu Ganshyam Dev Gupta as Head of Department (HoD) Radiology in the GMC and posted HoD Pharmacology Dr Zahid Geelani as the new Principal. However, no reasons were given for transfer of the Principal in the order. Though, elevation of Dr Geelani as Principal was not a reshuffle, it was demotion for the then principal, who according to sources had invited former Minister's wrath by refusing to obey his illegitimate directions.
"A pack of former Minister's loyalists had done hectic lobbying to replace Dr Ghanshyam, since the time Taj Mohi-i-din was the Minister H&ME , but they succeed only after formation of state government led by late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed", sources said. "However, except former Minister's loyalists, who had vested interests, the medical fraternity was not happy with the Lal Singh's decision," sources added.
Dr Zahid Gillani was appointed principal of the GMC Jammu in addition to professor and head pharmacology department and nodal officer of upcoming new medical collage at Rajouri.
Sources said the deteriorating condition of basic facilities in GMC during first visit of, new Health Minister had infuriated the latter and his despondency, according to sources, could soon result in recall of Dr. Ghanshyam Dev, as principal GMC, Jammu. |
