Srinagar remains calm, foils plans of separatists

Early Times Report
Srinagar, Apr 16: Srinagar city remaining calm amidst back to back shutdown calls given by the separatists has foiled the plans of the anti-national elements to trigger unrest in the summer capital.
Sources told Early Times that separatists are making desperate attempts to activate their henchmen to trigger unrest in the city. "Authorities imposing restrictions in the old city have made things difficult for the separatists. On Saturday miscreants appeared at a few places in civil lines areas and resorted to stone pelting and attacked the private vehicles which were plying on the roads," sources added.
Police sources said, "Separatists are making desperate attempts to activate their men and machinery as they are under pressure from their bosses sitting across the Line of Control (LoC) and in Pakistan to ensure that normalcy is not restored and life remains paralyzed."
They said, "Strict vigil is being maintained over volatile areas in the city and every attempt is being made to prevent people from hitting the streets."
"The people who can orchestrate trouble and stone pelting have been either booked or are absconding at least in the Srinagar city. Now the separatists are looking for new people to take over but youth don't seem to be interested. There is no possibility about 2010 like situation being recreated as Police have broken the back of separatists and their sympathizers," said a source.
He said, "During the past six years many known stone pelters have joined the police force and the ones who did not fall in the line where arrested and are lodged in different jails," the source added.
Separatists, according to the sources, had told their bosses in Pakistan that if they get a chance they would ensure that situation is "exploited." "At present their bosses are seeking answers as the violence in north Kashmir has not spilled over to any other part in the Valley. Even the volatile areas in Baramulla are calm and people seem least interested in the calls being given by the separatists," the sources added.
They said, "In absence of the henchmen which separatists had groomed during all these years they are trying to instigate young boys to come forward and become cannon fodder so that city erupts and unrest gets prolonged."
A mainstream politician while talking to Early Times said, "Separatists have become irrelevant and unpopular. People are fed up of the shutdown calls and the desperation of the Pak sponsored elements to keep Kashmir burning. Even the allegations of molestation, which wrecked havoc in Handwara have proved untrue and incorrect. They separatists called for a shutdown on Tuesday and on that very day Handwara trouble erupted and since then Kashmir has been closed. People have understood their nefarious designs and are unlikely to fall in their trap."
