JAMMU, Apr 28 : Ambreen Fatima added another feather to her cap when she clinched the women's Speed Climbing title on the concluding day of the 16th Jammu District Sport Climbing Championship at Sprawling Buds School, here today. Ambreen has already bagged the Lead climbing title. "It is worth mentioning here that this year Jammu district climbers who are zonal or national medalists were not permitted to compete in the district competition so as to pave way for the budding climbers to come up. The move paid rich dividends as a new crop of talented climbers completely dominated the two- day meet," informed generals secretary of the Association, Ram Khajuria. In the valedictory function, Chairman Indian Mountaineering Foundation North Zone Committee, S. Bhattacharjee was the chief guest, who along with guest of honour, Arti Sharma, Director of Sprawling Buds School gave away medals to the winners of the various categories. Prominent among others present included Director of Sprawling Buds School, Rahul Sharma; joint secretary, Mountaineering Association of J&K, Shawetica Khajuria; a trained mountaineer, Sonam Sidharth; Shashi Kant, Aman Arora (both qualified Belayers), Sakshi Magotra , Hardev Singh, Usha Devi, Suresh Kumar, Raman Magotra, Manik Slathia, Fazal Ahmad and Satish Bhan (sports organizer). The championship, wherein about 200 boys and girls participated, was organized by Mountaineering Association of J&K and sponsored by J&K State Sports Council. Meanwhile, as per a separate handout issued here today by the Association, the Udhampur, Reasi and Samba district Sport Climbing competitions shall start tomorrow. |
