Set free poor Handwara girl
CM needs to intervene

Early Times Report

JAMMU, Apr 28: The poor Handwara girl, who spoke the truth and identified miscreants who humiliated her and tried to implicate soldiers for molesting her, needs help and support.
All her passionate pleas that she be released from the Police detention have gone down the drain. Convinced that she will not be released, she the other day again sought the intervention of J&K State Women's Commission (SWC) for her release from police detention along with her father.
In fact, the girl, who is minor, wrote a letter to SWC Chairperson, Nayeema Mehjoor, for the second time seeking her intervention. In her earlier letter to the SWC chairperson she had clearly said that they had not sought any police protection. Why has she been kept under police detention? What is her crime? She has been kept under police detention for no reason and her only crime is that she rejected the allegation leveled by the anti-nationals and separatists that one Army jawan molested her. Not once, but a number of times, including in her deposition before the magistrate, she defended the army, rubbished the allegations leveled against the army and repeatedly said that the local youth whom she identified and not the army jawan were involved.
She is innocent and she has been under unbearable stress. Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti must intervene and get her freed from the clutches of police. This is the wish of one and all in the state. Her release and her foolproof security would send a right message across Kashmir.
