Early Times Report Kulgam, Apr 28: Kulgam Court on Wednesday convicted eight cops for murdering a National Conference activist in Frisal area of the district fifteen years ago. Court sentenced the convicted cops to five years of simple imprisonment and slapped a fine Rs 5000 on each of them. According to an official communiqué, The Chief Judicial Magistrate Kulgam said that the prosecution was able to prove the Section 30 of the Police Act read with Section 3 of Police Enhancement of Penalties Ordinance 2005 without reasonable doubt, in spite of some minor discrepancies. He convicted and sentenced 3 police constables, 4 SPOs and a PSO to five years of simple imprisonment. "They are also sentenced a fine of Rs 5,000 each which shall be paid to the family of deceased if they deposit it, and in case of failure they shall undergo an imprisonment for a further two months," the court added. Convicted police cops had killed the National Conference member, Mohammad Sikander at Frisal in Kulgam in 2001. Convicted were identified as Nisar Ahmad Rather of Hazratbal Srinagar, Sheraz Ahmad Thokar of Hanjan Kulgam, Fayaz Ahmad Pala of Manigam, Aijaz Ahmad Thokar of Shoch, Sajad Ahmad Sofi of Hazratbal Srinagar, Bashir Ahmad Teli of Kangan, Reyaz Ahmad Najar of Kangan and Mohammad Arif Reshi of Chek. |
