Lobbying intensifies for AICC berth | Mir recommends names of Mattoo, Namrata | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 28: Amidst reports that much delayed reconstitution of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) is likely to be affected very soon, the aspirants from Jammu and Kashmir for getting place in the highest decision making body of the Congress party have intensified lobbying for the same. According to the sources in Congress circles, the PCC president G A Mir, who is camping in New Delhi for the last two days, is learnt to have recommended the names of Raman Mattoo and Namrata Sharma to represent Kashmir and Jammu, respectively, in the new AICC. Even as number of spirants from Kashmir Valley is few, some senior leaders are in the race from Jammu. These include former Members of Parliament Madan Lal Sharma, former Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, former minister R S Chib, former minister and sitting MLC Jugal Kishore Sharma and others. While Madan Lal Sharma is the senior most among all the contenders, RS Chib has the backing of AICC general secretary and incharge J&K affairs, Ambika Soni. Tara Chand is the second choice of PCC president after Namrata Sharma while Jugal Kishore Sharma is the die- hard loyalist and most confident person of Ghulam Nabi Azad, sources explained. Earlier, the name of Madan Lal Sharma was making the rounds for the AICC but after souring of relations between GA Mir and Sham Lal Sharma, the PCC president preferred Namrata Sharma over the former MP, sources said. In case the name of Namrata Sharma is not approved on the plea of her being far junior to Madan Lal Sharma, sources said that the PCC president has almost made up his mind to project Tara Chand as the replacement. On the other hand, R S Chib is also confident of his inclusion of the AICC with the blessings of his mentor Ambika Soni, who is well known to have helped him in becoming a MLC and thereafter a minister in the then NC-Congress coalition Government. However, on the other hand, Madan Lal Sharma is also hopeful of getting support of Ambika Soni, who may prefer him over R S Chib for keeping a check on her vete noire Ghulam Nabi Azad in the J&K politics, sources hint. |
