Arun Kumar Early Times Report Kathua, Apr 29: Both union and state governments have introduced number of schemes with the aim to enhance literacy rate and make India a developed country but situation at ground is entirely different. State government provides free books, uniforms, mid day meal, educated staffs but still it can't attract students which speak volume of the implementation of these schemes by the education department. People who must teach students, generally compel students for cleanliness, carrying drinking water/ woods for preparing mid-day meals rather than encouraging them to study, resulting in less enrollment/ and poor academic result. In a similar case highlighted by residents of village Karroh, 15 km from Kathua town wherein students of Government Middle school are made to work like labourers entire day instead of study. Unavailability of class IV employee in the school affects study of the students as students have to clean whole courtyard, class rooms, office of the headmaster, kitchen etc. The students have to serve their teachers, bring drinking water and woods for mid day meals resulting in poor academic development among students. Sunil Kumar, the headmaster of the school, accepted the fact that due to unavailability of class IV employee in the school students had to work. He said the management had no other option but to engage students for cleanliness of the school. |
