Despite availability of funds, work on 2 PHCs yet to begin | | | M S Nazki Early Times Report POONCH, May 1: Despite the availability of funds for raising two PHCs (primary health centres) in Mendhar tehsil of the district, public works department (PWD) is alleged to be delaying their construction for 'unknown' reasons. The PHCs were to be raised at Sangiot and Kasblari in Mendhar, official sources said."Their project cost is Rs 1.06 cr and Rs 94 lakh respectively, but the executing agency has so far failed to take up work on any of them," said chief medical officer, Poonch, Dr Mumtaz Bhatti. The Sangiot PHC was at present said to be running from the house of one Nazir Ahmed on rental. It does not have the requisite space and facilities. In 2013, funds were allotted for the purchase of machines but till now nothing had been done. The CMO has called upon the executing agency to immediately take up work on both the PHCs. "We are lagging behind in medicare in the area", said Mehmood Khan, a student. When contacted, Poonch district development commissioner M H Malik he did not know much about the project. "However, I will speak to the CMO and needful will be done at the earliest, he assured. |
