Poonch, May 2: People of remote Kalaban village of Mendhar hace criticised the government, alleging that it had failed to make them available the basic amenities of life. A dilapidated road connects Mendhar town with the village having a population of about 500 persons. Even as lakhs of rupees were shown to have been spent on its maintenance, the road had developed pits all over it, locals alleged. "The underground PHE pipes, laid in 1990, are exposed at several places. Water reservoirs too are in a dilapidated condition. People have to walk long distances to fetch drinking water," they said. They alleged that in the three high schools, four middle schools and 12 primary schools of the village, there was inadequate staff. The school buildings were too not in a good condition, they claimed. "The village PHC does not have medicines and para-medicos run the show," they alleged. CAPD depots in the village were without sugar for several months and people had not got their wages under MGNREGA, they alleged. "The power condition is also too bad. The village either gets no power or its supply is very erratic even as it is the home town of MLA Javed Rana. Lakhs of rupees are being spent on development here but nothing is visible on the ground," the locals alleged. |
