Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, May 2: Department of Education continues to be in news and obviously for the wrong reasons. This time around a youth leader of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is making the headlines.
Sources told Early Times that PDP's Youth President Waheed-ur-Rahman Parra today visited the Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Kothi Bagh here. Parra delivered a lecture to the students of the school and it is not yet known who had invited him to the school in this regard.
The PDP's Youth President posted the 'news' about his visit to the school on social networking site 'Facebook'. He shared the news about his visit little knowing that it would invite wrath from the people especially the teachers of the department.
Sharing their views a group of teachers said that the PDP Youth President had no locus standi to visit the school and deliver the lecture to the girl students. The teachers said that Parra is a political personality and he has no reason whatsoever to visit a school and deliver lecture to the students.
"The educational institutes are slowly but surely becoming a hunting ground for the politicians.
We fail to understand under which category or capacity Parra visited the Kothi Bagh School. It was not a political stage but a school.
Such things need to be put to rest otherwise other politicians would be encouraged to visit schools and deliver lectures," said the teachers.
The teachers said that Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti who is also President of PDP should make the party position clear on this issue and remove the misgivings that have arisen following PDP Youth President's visit to the Kothi Bagh School.
The teachers said the atmosphere of educational institutes gets 'polluted' as and when some political personality visits them with students becoming vulnerable.
They demanded action against the Principal of the school if it is found that Parra was invited by the school authorities to deliver lecture.
