'Birbal' out to help relatives
5/2/2016 11:44:54 PM
Early Times Report
srinagar, May 2: The Education Minister Naeem Akther, who had made tall claims to revolutionize the education sector in Jammu and Kashmir has started his second innings with a "mission to help his relatives" and close aides.
Akther, who is known as Birbal in the present council of ministers, has ostensibly violated rules to get his close relative-a teacher---posted at his choicest place of posting in north Kashmir's Bandipora district.
Sources told Early Times a Mathematics lecturer Muzaffer Ahmed Peer, of Garoora, ancestral village of Education Minister, was transferred illegally in violation of rules to Higher Secondary Nadihal from Ajas Higher Secondary. Peer was transferred by the DESK earlier during the 'transfer Mela' after four years of his service at Higher Secondary Kaloosa, where he faced complaints of corporal punishment and decline in the roll in mathematics subject at the educational institution.
"Earlier in March during the Transfer Mela Muzzafer Peer was transferred to Ajas Higher Secondary after spending around four years at BHSS Kaloosa. After 29 days of joining he (Peer) was transferred to HSS Nadihal in violation of rules, while another teacher who had already spent seven years at HSS Ajas was forcibly relieved to adjust Peer. The relieved teacher was engaged in Chief Minster's Super 50 Coaching course. The DESK had earlier issued order that a teacher engaged in CM super 50 will not be transferred. The order was issued despite a ban on transfers during midsession from March 1."
An analyst while commenting on the misuse of power by the Birbal of the present regime said, "It seems the Education Minister believes only in giving sermons. He crushed the Jammu and Kashmir Teachers Federation (JKTF) to satiate his ego and drive home a point that he is the boss. He left no stone unturned to prove that JKTF has turned into mafia. Someone needs to ask the Education Minister that is he not acting like a don by ordering the transfers according to his whims and fancies."
It's in place to mention here that just a few days before the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti had chaired a meeting of the officials of the Education department and had reprimanded them for going out of way to favour the aides and relatives of the politicians. She had even told them that she would forward a list of her relatives to the officials to ensure that they don't go out of way to favour them.
"By favouring his relative Akther has not paid any heed to the directions of the Chief Minister and has gone out of way to get his relative transferred according to his wishes," the analyst added. He said, the Chief Minister should take a note of the matter as such incidents send a wrong message and make belief of the people firm that nothing has changed on the ground.
