Over 30 students develop allergy mysteriously

Rajouri, May 3: More than 35 students of Government High School,Dalogra in Rajouri district reportedly fell sick due to an allergy on Monday while local alleged the cause of students falling sick was contaminated water.
Headmaster of the school and Ashwan Kumar, Sarpanch of the area said that the students fell ill due to consumption of contaminated water and accordingly informed the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to send a team of doctors.
On the directions from Dr Chaman Bhasin, CMO a team of doctors on Monday rushed to the school and checked the affected students. "The student complaint symptoms like snoozing, nasal congestion, watery eye, itchy throat and breathlessness, locals said, adding that doctors also lifted the blood sample of some of the students for the identification of the viral disease.
People of the area informed the doctors that the children complained uneasiness after consuming contaminated water from school water tank. "The matter was also brought into the notice of Executive Engineer, PHE who immediately sent a team from PHE department to the school which collected samples of the water for its chemical analysis.
"The water supplied to the school and in the villages situated in its vicinity found to be pure after testing in the laboratory. Thus the theory of 'contaminated water' can be ruled out," said Sectional Engineer, PHE while talking to the reporters.
Meanwhile Dr Chaman Bhasin, CMO Rajouri along with a team of doctors and technicians also visited the school today and found that the students fell sick due to Pollen Allergy.
"The symptoms of sickness found in the children were due to Pollen Allergy. Pollen Allergy can be caused due to Pollen and molds, he said and added that children were provided necessary treatment in the school. The viral disease is communicable and can be communicated from one to other students, so the headmaster has been advised to take due precautions," said Dr Chaman Bhasin.
Making locals aware of Pollens and molds, he said these can cause allergy including Asthama symptoms (as hay fever & allergic rhinitis) and hundreds of people can be sufferers while their exposure to trees, grass and weeds.
"Chief Medical Officer has suggested sending the affected students on leave for few days so that other students may not suffer. The necessary action will be taken in this matter soon" said Ch Altaf Hussian, CEO.
