Bali Bhagat claims to facelift health institutions across J&K

Early Times Report

Jammu, May 3: Three days back J&K Health minister Bali Bhagat talked high about government's intent to upgrade health institutions across the state where apart from doctors adequate availability of medicines and facilities would be ensured. Ironically in one the Primary Health Centres falling within his own political constituency Raipur Domana, the scenario is failing the patients on all fronts as not only there it exists without a doctor but infrastructure and facilities elude them.
The PHC in Bhalwal is functioning without any doctor nor are there any basic facilities which could provide any succour to the patients of the area in hour of need. The doctor who was posted here has reportedly got herself attached temporarily at some other place and she is looking for a 'suitable' place of posting, without bothering about the fate of poor patients, said the sources. The doctor has chosen to skip this place of posting apparently to avoid the work load at this PHC is an impression feel patients have gathered visiting there daily for their ailments. Since the doctor, a general physician required at PHCs is not available there, the patients are compelled to go to either Akhnoor or Jammu hospital, sources said. This scenario on the ground level at his own constituency is reflecting poor state of affairs puncturing the tall claims and intent of the new Health Minister who talked high of improving it beyond basic needs few days back.
The PHC has also the posts of dentists , around three at present said one of the patients, adding that while they are well there but their presence doesn't benefit the patients as there is no infrastructure not even the basic chair the dentists specifically need to examine the patients. It is only for the sake of attending their duties that these dentist doctors come but it serves no purpose to the needs of patients with tooth ailments. The Minister, ironically painted a very rosy picture of what and how he desires the health department to function, upgradation and improvement of the facilities being thrust areas. It was during the review meeting in Doda and Kishtwar he stated that not only delivery of medical services would become effective but the institutional deliveries would improve with opening of new sub centres and construction of new hospital buildings wherever required, perhaps little knowing the scene in his own constituency. Is he blissfully ignorant or addressing the problems on political considerations, one wonders …..! With Darbar having shifted to Srinagar now, the people have little or no hope of their improvement of their fate on front of health facilities. Disappointed, they now want Centre or the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to look fill the gaps in the system for what they seek effective delivery.
