SRINAGAR, May 3: The Darbar Move offices are all set to resume their business here in the summer capital of the state on May 9, but a glaring issue that has come up over the past many years is knocking at the doors of the people at helm this year as well.
Lack of accommodation for the employees has over the years remained a burning issue and this year too is not different. Not to talk of the lower rung employees even some higher ups have been denied the same. If the things are not set in right direction then problems may galore in this respect.
Chairperson State Social Welfare Board (SSWB), Nirmal Gupta is one of the high profile personalities who is yet to receive the accommodation at the summer capital. Despite enjoying the status of Minister of Status (MoS), Nirmal Gupta is yet to get the official accommodation at Srinagar.
Sources told Early Times that ever since taking over the charge as Chairperson SSWB, Nirmal Gupta has not been allotted the government accommodation in the summer capital. This is despite the fact that she has written many missives to the government in this regard.
"Nirmal Gupta took charge as Chairperson SSWB on July 22, 2015 and since then she is without an official accommodation at Srinagar. During last year's Darbar Move she had to stay at the Circuit House and this year too, the picture is not rosy. The Chairperson SSWB is yet to be allotted some accommodation in the summer capital. This is despite the fact that Move offices are opening within five days in Srinagar," said sources.
Sources said that Nirmal Gupta raised the issue about last year's denial of accommodation with the government many times, but at the end of the day there was no action. The government at that time paid no heed whatsoever to her request and as such she had to pass the previous stint of Durbar Move here at the Circuit House.
"This year the people at helm have asked Chairperson SSWB to identify some private accommodation on her own. This is highly pathetic that some of the former ministers continue to enjoy government accommodation while as a person given the status of MoS by the present regime is without an accommodation," said sources.
Sources said that Nirmal Gupta had months back written to the state government regarding her choice with respect to the accommodation that fell in a secure zone. Despite this the choice put forward by her was out-rightly rejected and the said accommodation has been allotted to some other person, said sources.
"It is important that chief minister Mehbooba Mufti intervenes in the matter since the issue relates to the official accommodation of a woman who is right now discharging her duties as Chairperson SSWB. The denial of accommodation mocks at the so-called empowerment of the women in the state and in such a scenario one should not hope that women would shine," said sources.
