Early Times Report

Jammu, May 4: Contrary to the tall claims to provide free education to the students up to eight class, the government schools in Kishtwar district are charging admission fee from the students from 1st standard to 12th standard every year despite clear cut orders to charge one time admission fee from class 1st to 5th and one time admission fee from class 6th to 8th and vice versa.
Even though the schools are charging admission fees but in many case same doesn't get deposited in government treasury. The issue was raised by the Educational Reformation Teachers Union (ERTU) with Chief Education Officer Kishtwar today who assured them that the matter would be looked into.
As per the details available with "Early Times", the deputation of ERTU under the presidentship of Tanveer Ahmad Malik met CEO Kishtwar Abdul Hamid Fani and apprised him about various issues and problems faced by the schools and teacher fraternity. The deputation at length deliberated upon the CEO about the problem of mid day meals, repeated admission fee being charged from the students every year and other problems which are hindering day to day functioning of government schools in the district.
While talking to "Early Times", Tanveer Ahmed Malik said the association took up the matter with regard to admission fee being charged from the students every year with the CEO Kishtwar. He added that schools are charging admission fee from the students after they qualify for the next class. This is putting undue pressure on poor students.
He said that it was impressed upon the CEO that this menace of repeated admission fee in the government schools should be done away with so that the students could be imparted free and compulsory education at the grass root level. He added that CEO Kishtwar assured the delegation that he would forward this genuine cause to higher authorities for its viable solution.
The other problem highlighted by the deputation was the disparity in the distribution of mid day meals in the schools.
"We held a thread bare discussion with the CEO Kishtwar and apprised him about the uneven distribution in the mid day meals between primary and middle standard--- though the quantity of middle schools is served evenly in middle standard but the worst sufferers are the budding students of primary level who need more nutrition for their proper mental and physical growth" said Malik.
He said that it becomes even difficult for the Incharge teachers of mid day meals to evenly distribute the meals due to non sufficient supply of quota, particularly in the primary standard which ultimately does not serve the purpose of this flagship program. He said that the CEO assured the delegation that he would talk to higher authorities and will try to mitigate this problem at an earliest.
The deputation also apprised the CEO about the recent spate and unwarranted escalation of hoarding issue in which Dr. Sir Syed Mohd Iqbal name was written as Iqbal Singh and added that the issue took an ugly turn when the issue went viral in social and other print media.
The CEO impressed upon the delegation that the issue was not handled amicably by the school authorities least the same would have been settled within the four walls of the school. He also conveyed the delegation that he has issued an advisory to all the schools of the district to cross check any such posters in future to maintain the sanctity of both the poets and education department itself.
