GS Asgotra Early Times Report jammu, May 5: Empowered by self proclaimed honest former health minister, the Jammu and Kashmir Medical Supply Corporation (JKMSC) has failed to fulfill its purpose for which the medical corporation was constituted. During 10 months previous state government, the former health minister had claimed to bring 'transparency' in medical supply in term of drug quality. "Aim of the corporation was to provide quality drugs to needy people of the state on time. But, delayed tendering and delayed testing by board before closing financial year, supply hanged in balance", sources said. They further said that supply of medicine in Chenab Valley region, the home town of incumbent Health Minister, Bali Bhagat, has not been made. "Trio hilly districts Ramban, Doda and Kistwar notorious for frequent road accident, sans even primary drugs", he said, adding that, however the corporation was formed to serve people at their door steps. Paradoxically, the Corporation, despite of change of guard, is still far away from its goal. "Higher-up of the health and medical education department using tactics to cover up their failure, various organizations, affiliated to health and medical department are issuing statements in favour of the corporation", they added. They further said that the ground realty is that even premier hospitals of the states, are facing acute shortage of drugs. "It is also learnt that primary care drugs being supplied to the tertiary care hospitals", they alleged. When contacted Director NRHM, Dr Manmohan Singh said that for supply purpose, Rs 18 crore have been released in favour of corporation. "There is no shortage of funds, and in future, funds required for drug, will also be released", he said, and added that it is the responsibility of the corporation purchase and supply. Managing Director, JKMSC Dr Yash Pal Sharma when contacted said that the corporation has sufficient medicine, and has been provided to CMOs. However, contradicting claims of MD JKSMC, a CMO said that very poor supply is being made by the corporation. "In last two months, we received supply, in installments, which was not upto the requirement", he said, whishing not to be named. |
