Mendhar, May 5: A pregnant woman was alleged to have died after delivering a male baby in Poonch district hospital for want of medicare. Shaheen Akhter (27), wife of police cop Mohammad Ibrahim of Kanti Banola, Mendhar, was admitted in SDH, Mendhar, after she developed labour pain at her residence. She was, however, referred to the district hospital, Poonch, by the doctors. In the Poonch hospital, she was operated upon by Dr Shehnaz. However, soon after childbirth, she suffered from excessive uterine bleeding, but due to the alleged non- availability of blood in DH, Poonch, she was again referred to SDH, Mendhar. From Mendhar SDH, she was referred to the GMCH, Jammu, but she died on the way near Madan, Surankote. Her husband, a JKAP cop, who was presently said to be posted as driver of IGP, traffic police, said a Poonch DH doctor had told him that there was no blood in the hospital. He said though Poonch CMO, Dr Mumtaz Bhatti had been inaugurating several blood donation camps, he failed to understand where this blood had gone. He alleged that negligence on the part of doctors had claimed the lives of his wife and the new born baby. Mankote tehsildar Shehzad Khan, who attended the last rites of the woman, assured a probe into the incident. Social Development organization, a, NGO, while appealing health minister Bali Bhagat to order an inquiry into the incident, expressed surprise over the non-availability of blood in the Poonch DH. Meanwhile, District Development Commissioner, Poonch, M H Malik has assured the woman's family members to get the matter investigated and book guilty, if any.
