Preserving 'state's special status' our prime objective: Mehbooba

Anantnag, May 5: Reiterating that party would safeguard the special status of state, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today said that prime objective of her government is to safeguard the special position which state enjoys by the virtue of Article 370.
Addressing a gathering at Railway Station Anantnag before the inaugural ceremony of two DEMU trains, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said, "I attended Joint Conference of Chief Ministers of the States and Chief Justices in Delhi and told them that Article 370 is part of the Indian constitution. And I informed them that we sworn by Indian constitution as well as by the state constitution, so the question is how we can safeguard our special identity?"
"Can we safeguard it by fighting or extending a hand of friendship, we need to think about it," she added.
She said that state has merged with the country in 1947, not with any particular political group. "State merged with India the country which has vibrant democracy, rich cultural and religious diversity," she added.
While justifying the alliance with BJP, Mehbooba going nostalgic and emotional said that her father Late Mufti Sayed had chalked out a way and he opted for the betterment and development of the state." "On 4th day, my father (late Mufti Sayed) felt better and he asked them what your action plan is? He told the doctors don't waste my time; I have to do a lot of development in the state. These words forced me to think over the government formation," said emotional Mehbooba Mufti amid applaud from crowd.
Expressing her concerns over the grave threat posed by terror across the globe, the Chief Minister blamed America and Russia by the current situation and terrorism in neighboring country Pakistan.
"We all are well aware about the situation in Islamic countries particularly in neighboring country Pakistan. America and Russia used Pakistan to defame Islam," she said.
Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh, Member of Parliament, Muzaffer Hussain Beg, R&B Minister Abdul Rehman Veeri and PDP General Secretary Sartaj Madni too addressed the gathering.
Later, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti inaugurated Anantnag- Baramulla DEMU train.
According to official communiqué, For the convenience of rail passengers, Northern Railways has introduced two Pairs Of Train Nos. 74617/74618 DEMU between Budgam and Baramula (Six Days A Week) & 74619/74620 Fast DEMU between Baramula and Banihal (Six Days A Week).
Both the trains will have limited stops. In its inaugural run, the 07461 Anantnag- Baramulla DEMU train departed from Anantnag at 02.30 PM.
