LMD realises Rs 44,900 fine from erring traders | | | Early Times Report KATHUA/RAJOURI, May 6: During market checking, legal metrology department (LMD) today realised a fine of Rs 19,900 from the erring traders in Kathua and Rs 25,000 in Rajouri. A team headed by LMD Assistant Controller Ajay Kumar Verma conducted an intensive checking of general stores, hardware stores, sweet shops, flour mills, karyana shops, fruit abd vegetable sellers, provision stores and mustard oil dealers in Kathua market, at Nagri Adda, Logate Morh and in adjoining areas. More than 30 traders from various sectors were inspected and six of them were compounded and a penalty of Rs 19900 was imposed on them for violation of different provision of J&K Weights and Measures Enforcement (amendment) Act 2011 and Package Commodities Rules. The inspection team also booked a Punjab-based firm for selling mustard oil without mandatory declarations as required under Packages Commodities rules. After going through a number of correspondences with the company representative and on the assurance of the company not to repeat the fault in future, the case was compounded by imposing a penalty of Rs 10,000. The department directed all the traders to only use the weights and measures and related instruments that had been verified and authenticated by LMD, ensure that Maximum Retail Price (MRP), Date of Packing (PKD), net contents and complete address of the manufacturer, packer and Consumer Care Number were declared on the commodities to be sold in package form as per PCR. The department also warned the unscrupulous traders to desist away from adopting unfair trade and anti-consumer practices to cheat the innocent consumers and also appealed to consumers to remain vigilant while purchasing commodities. Meanwhile, in Rajouri, LMD carried out checking of markets in Sunderbani and Siot areas and realised a fine of Rs 25,000 from the erring traders. |
