Early Times Report
Srinagar, May 17: The frequent back off by Handwara girl whose alleged molestation consumed five civilians in her home town has bewildered experts who believe that the girl is hell-bent on instigating violence in susceptible zone.
Initially she praised police for protecting her and family and accused the local youth of humiliating and abusing her for no reason. Later on her mother while rebutting her own daughter's statement overtly denied involvement of local youth and blamed soldiers for the mess.
Now the question arises if she was really harassed by the soldiers then what made her to implicate innocents, and if the local youth had intentionally humiliated her then what made her mother accuse army and police to pressurize her daughter to record a fabricated statement.
Pertinently, the mother, of the Handwara girl, in a video released a few days after the incident extended her heartfelt condolences with the bereaved families who lost their kith and kin during protests in Handwara town.
"They (youth) could not tolerate their sister being exploited and they laid down their lives as a mark of protest. They were my sons I really feel sad for them, "said the victim's mother in a video statement.
Meanwhile the victim upheld her previous statement deposed before the police in open court room and again held the local youth responsible for her plight.
Then she addressed a jam packed press conference in Srinagar and brought another twist in the story after she accused the local police of intimidating her to record the statement.
An expert attributed the statement of the teenage girl with 'duplicity,' who believes that her motive is to create confusion so that her role remains hidden.
"If she was pressurized by the police why did not she narrate her tale before the Judge had she informed the court that she was coerced to do so court would have definitely taken the cognizance of the issue and the people who forced her to record the fabricated statement would have faced the music," he said.
He said such statements are aimed to create confusion "definitely there is something fishy, sometimes she praises police and sometimes she accuse them of coercion, it's confusing"
"This matter should be investigated through court she must be cross-examined so that the facts come to fore whether she was really molested or there was some other reason. The girl frequently changing her statement has added to the confusion,'' he added.
