Banihal, May 23: Four days after the district magistrate, Ramban, ordered to initiate criminal proceedings against HCC for not properly maintaining the Banihal-Ramban stretch of the highway, the company has started the repair work on the road. HCC has pressed its men and machinery to repair the 37 km Banihal-Ramban road which has developed cracks and potholes on it. District magistrate Mohammad Ajaz Asad had on May 19 last said that road accidents were on rise due to the dilapidated condition of the national highway from Banihal to Ramban. He had also stated that 4-laning of the road from 150 to 187 km was allotted to HCC under the condition that it would also properly maintain the existing NHW. But even after repeated warnings, the company had not paid any heed to the maintenance works. However, after Asad ordered criminal proceedings against it, HCC started maintenance work on the existing national highway near Khooni Nullah, Ramban. HCC officers, who were monitoring the repair work, said the work got delayed due to rains. Thana police and traffic police were also not cooperating with the company, they alleged. |
