2 TSOs, others booked in Rs 17 cr fraud in CAPD | | | Early Times Report
jammu, May 23: Crime Branch (CB) of police today registered a case in an alleged embelzellment of Rs 17 cr in CAPD department in Reasi district. According to the CB case, various complaints of misappropriation of ration and carriage funds worth crores were received in the office of SDPO, Mahore, Reasi. The complaints were made against Tehsil Supply officers (TSOs) of Mahore and Chassana by Zarifa Begam, Qamer Din, residents of Bagoodas through numberdar Dharm Singh and residents of Shajroo through ex-sarpanch Kartar Singh. Ration dealers and CAPD officials were also alleged to be part of the scam. During investigation, Mahore SDPO found out that Rs 17 cr had allegedly been misappropriated in the last five years after fraudulently withdrawing money from the J&K Bank (Reasi) accounts of TSOs of Mahore and Chasana in the name of carriage charges which were never paid to anyone as ration was never distributed in the two areas. The embezzled amount was also alleged to have been shared by ration dealers. The probe revealed that TSOs of Mahore and Chasana had allegedly prepared fake and fabricated bills related to carriage charges. It was also found that huge assets disproportionate to their known sources of income had been raised by the TSOs, storekeepers, ration dealers and other CAPD officials through fraudulent means thereby causing huge loss to the state exchequer. After the conclusion of the inquiry, the matter was referred by then SP, Reasi, to CB for registration of a formal case for in-depth investigation. CB has booked the accused under sections 420, 465, 466, 467, 468, 471 and 120-B of RPC read with section 5(2) of P C Act Svt 2006. (JNF) |
