Early Times Report Jammu, May 23: A retired officer of the rank of SP of state police is allegedly encroaching the National Highway in a deliberated manner by getting the large number of rehris installed on it. "The retired SP, whose son in law is also a DySP in JKP, is minting money by installing rehris, illegally, along the National Highway near Zorawar Singh Stadium ,adjoining Channi Himmat locality", sources said. The matter came to fore when NHAI cracked down on the powerful encroachers who had encroached land near highway. NHAI had conducted a comprehensive anti-encroachment drive on Narwal bypass road and removed several structures. During the drive, a popular eatery located near a private hospital at Army gate, car washing centre and some of the prominent car show rooms came on the radar of the NHAI authorities as they had raised illegal structures to support their commercial businesses. The NHAI authorities had also bulldozed the rehris running illegal businesses along the road. However, day after the drive, the same rehris, showing thumb to the NHA1 authorities reappeared that too on the same locations. Later, it was reliably learnt that the reharis are being run at the behest of the former SP. Strangely, NHA1 authorities did not bother to lodge complaint against the said encroachers. Pertinently, on Saturday some senior NHAI officials accompanied by civil authorities of state Revenue department launched anti encroachment drive. |
