Early Times Report

Jammu, May 25: A high court division bench of Chief Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar and Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey today ordered that the court's lift operators were entitled to receive equal pay for equal work. The court directive came in a petition filed by the HC lift operators, seeking a direction to respondents to fix their pay retrospectively in the pay scale of Rs 4,000-6,000 as paid to their counterparts working in other departments like civil secretariat and estates.
Observing that petitioners were entitled to get equal pay for equal work, the bench directed registrar general to send a proposal to the law secretary for upgradation of their pay scale from Rs 900-1830 to Rs 4,000-6,000 within a period of three weeks.
The bench also directed the law secretary to upgrade the petitioner's pay scale and pass orders within one month from the date of receipt of the proposal from the registrar general.
