VOK books SMC EO, others in corruption case | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, May 25: Vigilance Organization Kashmir has booked an Enforcement officer (EO) of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), a Building Inspector and a Ward Officer in a corruption case. They were alleged to have facilitated an illegal construction of a commercial complex in the residential area of Manderbagh by one Salima, wife of Ghulam Nabi Malik of Manderbagh. Acting on a complaint, VOK carried out a joint surprise check and found out that a 16 RCC column on an area of 34x68.6 sq ft up to the height of 10 ft from the ground level, including plinth beams, had illegally been raised by Saleema in violation of the building norms and without proper SMC permission. The concerned SMC employees - then EO Mohammad Ashraf Warsi, son of Faqir Ghulam Mohammad of Baghi Sunder Payeen, Chattabal, then building Inspector (ward No 5) Bashir Ahmad Bhat, son of Ghulam Ahmad of Nawakadal and ward officer Bilal Ahmad Baba, son of Wali Mohammad Baba of B K Pora - were found to have allegedly abused their official position and allowed Salima to raise the illegal structure. Accordingly, VOK registered a case against them under section 5(1) (d) read with section 5(2) of J&K P C Act and section 120-B of RPC. It is pertinent to mention here in 2015- 16, VOK had registered four cases against SMC officials for indulging in corrupt practices and recommended departmental actions against them. |
