United Opposition disrupts Guv address, demand sacking of Lal Singh

Srinagar, May 25: Launching a scathing attack on Minister for Forest & Ecology Choudhary Lal Singh for his alleged threat to Gujjar community, the united opposition demanded sacking of Forest Minister Lal Singh and his immediate arrest.
As soon as the first day of 2016-17 budget session started with Governor NN Vohra's speech to joint sittings of state legislature at Banquet Hall of Sher-e-Kashmr International Convention Center here today, Opposition MLAs from Congress, National Conference, besides Independents raised slogans against Lal Singh and demanded immediate action against the Minister for his remarks that had a potential to disrupt the peace and tranquility in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
"Lal Singh Ko Barkhaast karo--- Barkhaast Karo, Barkhaast Karo" slogans reverberated in the house while Governor NN Vohra continued his speech. The opposition also raised slogans for roll back of National Food Security Act and relief to the flood effected victims and rued the delayed process of the government in this regard.
Independent MLA from Langate Er. Rasheed also continuously raised various issues during the Governor's speech and held the banner demanding white paper on Magisterial Probe ordered by the government in killing of two youths in Handwara. He also raised the issue of continues detention of hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani and slamming of repeated PSA on Musarat Alam who is architect of 2010 summer unrest in the valley claiming lives of over 120 innocent youths during Omar Abdullah led NC-Congress government.
After protest or about 10 minutes, the opposition leaders staged walk out from the Banquet Hall of SKICC and held strong protest outside for almost one hour and left the venue after Governor N N Vohra completed his address and left the venue along with Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.
While talking to media persons, Congress Legislative Party Leader Nawang Rigzin Jora while commenting on Lal Singh said that the Minister aimed to divide the people in the name of religion. He said that Lal Singh's statement should be taken seriously by the Chief Minister who should immediately sack him immediately.
National Conference General Secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar while taking to media persons also demanded action against Lal Singh for his irrelevant and communal comment. He also slammed the government over establishment of Sanik Colonies and proposed rehabilitation of displaced Kashmiri Migrants in separate colonies.
Meanwhile Lal Singh today once again refuted the allegations and said that he had never used any such words. "I was talking about 47 degree temperature and his statement was twisted. He said that being as a forest minister he was committed to preserve the forest and ecology of the state.
Reacting to the demand of his sacking by the opposition, Lal Singh hit out at Congress legislators added that he was in Congress party before he joined BJP and knew their (Congress) intentions well.
"They removed me from ministry, I become MP Twice-they denied me party ticket, I become MLA and today is a Minister" said Lal Singh adding that government was ready to face opposition on developmental issues and said that during short span of present government, state has witnessed more development than in previous government. He urged the people not give ear to any such thing which will aim to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere in the state at the time when tourism and Yatra season is about to pick up in the state.
Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, Deputy CM Dr. Nirmal Singh and other senior cabinet members attended the joint sittings at SKICC.
Leader of Opposition and former CM, Omar Abdullah gave the first day of 2016-17 Budget Session a miss as he is said to be out of station.
