BJP minister trying to take credit of Jammu Lake

Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 26: A senior BJP minister is trying to take credit for the Jammu lake on which the coalition government has stopped the work soon after coming to power last year and created a controversy over the fate of the lake which was not only conceived by former PHE, Irrigation &FC Minister Taj Mohi-ud-Din but on which maximum work was done during the previous NC-Congress coalition government.
Soon after taking over the reigns of state government the PDP-BJP coalition abandoned work on the lake project and gave birth to a new controversy with the result its fate hanged into balance. For last over one year no work was done on the lake creating a lot of public resentment.
Even at one stage government had decided to abandon the project which evoked a public resentment forcing the BJP to put the record straight as Party had come under a scathing attack from all sides, sources added.
Sources said now the BJP minister is claiming to develop the lake on the basis of Sabarmati river in Gujarat and is trying to take credit for the construction of the lake and its development without knowing that the project was conceived by previous NC-Congress coalition and over 60 percent work on the lake was done during their rule.
Sources said by changing the design of the lake does in no way mean that the minister deserve the credit for the project in which he and his party has no contribution. Instead the BJP delayed the project over a year after coming to power and had it not been so the Jammu Lake would have been inaugurated by now, sources added.
Sources said with the changing of the design and getting it approved through technical experts will take more time with the result the project would be further delayed for years together. So neither BJP nor its ministers have any right to claim the credit, sources added.
Sources said the speedy construction of lake would have helped in storage of water during summer and the same could have been diverted via Tawi canal for irrigation purposes when there is waster shortage often.
Moreover the people of Jammu want a reply from the minister on Cable Car project to Bagh-e-Bahu and Mubarak Mandi Heritage project which are hanging in balance for years together now. If completed in time these two prestigious projects could have attracted lot of tourists to Jammu but it seems the coalition is not sincere in the same, sources said.
The minister who is heading the BJP legislative party owes an explanation to Jammuites over the fate of these projects as mere statements will not help the people of Jammu.
