Govt. blames separatists for destabilising peace in Kashmir
5/27/2016 8:18:29 PM
If the Government blames the separatists for destabilizing peace in Kashmir it is not wrong. It has been the mission, habit and hobby of the separatists to give a call for shutdowns. Repeated shutdown means these separatists are there to disturb the security scenario. And Thursday's shutdown, for which the call had been given by the separatists, was to register protest against establishing a sainik colony and colonies for Pandits where they would be rehabilitated. Well separatists, both moderate and hardliners, want Pandits to resettle in the areas fromwhere they had fled the valley in the wake of threats from militants and their supporters. Most of the Pandits have sold their land and houses for a song. Houses of scores of them have been either burnt or forcibly occupied. Where then these separatists will settle the Pandits? Despite the fact that right from the Chief Minister down to the Minister for Education and Revenue all of them have denied reports that a sainik colony was being set up in Budgam where non-state subjects were to be settled in violation of the state subject law, mischief mongers keep on raking up the issue simply to destabilize peace. Once peace gets derailed it will hit the tourist traffic also. A weak tourist season casts a shadow on the economy of people. Education Minister and government spokesman, Naeem Akhtar, has come down heavily on Hurriyat Conference for disturbing peace in Kashmir saying they were "raking up non issues'' to subvert the government efforts to bring economic and political stability in the state. Akhtar has said separatists were trying to subvert peace and dent the economy when we have a good tourist season. "They were raking up non-issues." He was reacting to a question about the shutdown called by the separatists against the creation of separate clusters for displaced Kashmiri Pandits (KPs) and establishment of Sainik colonies in Valley. Well a sainik colony has been established in Jammu, years ago but no nonstate subject has been living there. In fact the demand for a sainik colony was raised by those exservicemen who belonged to the stated and were serving in the JK Light infantry and other regiments. Even the previous National Conference Government has mooted the idea of establishing a sainik colony for rehabilitating those servicemen and exservicemen who are citizens of Jammu and Kashmir. Akhtar had earlier clarified that there will be no exclusive colonies for KPs and had ruled out the establishment of Sainik Colonies stating that there was no land available in the Valley. However, chairmen of both factions of Hurriyat Conference and JKLF have called for shutdown to counter plans to change the demography of Jammu and Kashmir. Akhtar said Hurriyat has been giving the hartal calls since long and it is not the first time that it has done this. "They are trying to subvert the prosperity and economic activity in Kashmir," he said while referring to the pickup in economic activity in the Valley after the good tourist season. Akhtar said the opposition parties NC and Congress should have listened to Governor's address and made their point in a democratic way instead of resorting to the protests and walkout. It is the duty of the opposition to raise issues that concern people but there is a way for doing this. The NC and the Congress seem to behave like an opposition group for the sake of opposing the Government with reason or no reason. Yes, the opposition should resort to constructive criticism which would not destabilize peace. It is strange that on one hand the NC and the Congress claim to be part of the mainstream politics on the other their leaders have been seen supporting the separatists simply to strengthen their vote bank. But doing this at the cost of peace in the state is part of negative politics.
