47 kidnapping cases registered in Jammu district in 4 months | | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 27: Though Jammu and Kashmir police recently had claimed that the crime graph rate has come down in the state but as per records, this year 47 kidnapping cases have been registered in first four months across Jammu district. As per the police data, 47 cases of kidnapping were registered under the jurisdictions of different police stations in Jammu district. ''Out of 47 cases registered in 25 police stations falling in Jammu district, 22 were not admitted while challan was produced in four cases and 21 are under investigation,'' police sources here said. The sources said none of the cases has been reported as untraced. They added that in January, 13 cases of kidnapping were registered while 11 registered in February, 15 in March and eight in April. However, in 2015, total 202 cases of kidnapping alone were registered in the district out of which 98 were not admitted, 28 remained untraced, 62 were under investigation and in 14 cases, challan was produced. ''In maximum of the cases, kidnapping is either for ransom or over some rivalry or girls kidnapped by unidentified/identified and suspected persons,'' they added. Pertinent to mention here that recently attempt to kidnap a lady advocate was made in a broad day light at Bikram Chowh area following which Jammu lawyers also suspended the court work for a day seeking action against the culprits and probe into the matter. ''Noose has been tightened in criminal activities but so far the kidnapping cases registered are being investigated and police is making all efforts to locate the victims and the abductors as well,'' a police officer asserted. |
