SRINAGAR, May 27: Former chief minister and MLA Beerwah, Omar Abdullah today accused the Peoples Democratic Party and Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) government in the state of failing to meet the expectations of the people and termed the 15 months of coalition government as complete failure.
Omar who is the leader of the opposition in the assembly said that state government failed to convince the central government over the continuation of common entrance test in the state. He said that Jammu & Kashmir is the only state in the country where the subject of education comes under the state list and not under the concurrent list which is the case with the other states. He made these observations while taking part in the discussion on the Governor's address.
"It is quite unfortunate that you people forced the Governor to lie while he was addressing the legislators. You resorted to haste while implementing the National Food Security Act in the state. You could not stop holding of National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) from next year in the state despite the fact that Jammu & Kashmir holds a special place in the Union of India," said Omar.
The legislator from Beerwah said that rehabilitation and resettlement of Kashmiri Pandits in colonies would lead to disaster. He said that people living in Jagti township near Jammu are up against many odds and same would happen if the members of Kashmiri Pandit community are settled in same type of hutments in Kashmir valley.
"The Prime Minister said that land has been identified for the establishment of exclusive Pandit colonies in Kashmir. If it is true then we are in for trouble. We don't want a Jagti camp here and let the Kashmiri Pandits and other people who migrated from valley at their original places and if this is not possible let them settle down in the cities and towns," said Omar.
The MLA Beerwah said that industrial policy was revoked within 24 hours of its announcement. He challenged the government to file an FIR against him if it is proved that he had allotted land for the establishment of Sainik colony in the state. He pitched for granting smart city status to Jammu and Srinagar cities.
"It is unfortunate that the present chief minister is hiding behind the government spokesman. This does not augur well for the future of the CM of the state. You have to come out of this shell and come out with some statement. For the first time in the history the Muslims of Jammu are feeling insecure and the credit goes to one of your ministers," said Omar.
The MLA Beerwah said that the NIT issue was not properly handled by the state government and the local students despite being in minority were projected as hooligans. He referred to the Handwara incident and said that government should come clean on the issue adding that if police is guilty then action should be taken against the force. He said that government should set a time frame for the implementation of recommendations of 7th Pay Commission and if the same is not possible still then a word should come from the government.
The others who spoke during the discussion include Javed Hassan Beg (PDP), Sat Sharma (BJP), Hakeem Mohammad Yasin (PDF), Nawang Rigzin Jora (Congress), Agha Syed Ruhullah (NC), Ravinder Raina (BJP), Shah Mohammad Tantray (PDP), Mohammad Amin Bhat (Congress), Mian Altaf Ahmad (NC), Raja Manzoor (PDP), Jeewan Lal (BJP) and Abdul Rashid Dar (Congress).
