BARAMULLA, May 27: In two separate encounters six militants and one army soldier were killed, and one army soldier was injured in twin districts of north Kashmir over past two days.
According to senior police official that, "an encounter broke out between forces and suspected militants in the wee hoursFriday in Khunchipora area of Tangmarg in Baramulla district.
Based on specific information about the presence of two militants in Khunchipora village of Tangmarg area, a joint operation was launched by Army 2 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Police and CRPF 176 Bn, the police official told early times.
The official said that, security forces had surrounded the house in Konchipora village in the morning following information about two Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militants hiding in it.
In the afternoon, the security forces used explosives to demolish the house. The bodies of the two militants were recovered from the debris, adding that, one army soldier was injured in the Khunchipora gunfight, the official said.
He said that, 2 AK-47 rifles and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the possession of killed militants.
However sources told early times that, "the militants were given a chance for surrender which they refused and they fired upon search parties which resulted in an encounter.
They said that local residents have identified the slain militants as Mehraj Ahmad Bhat S/O Ghulam Mohd Bhat of Andargam Pattan and Aadil Ahmad Mir of Brath Sopore. Both the militants were belonged to Hizbul-Mujahideen (HM) outfit.
In an another encounter, four militants were neutralized and a soldier was killed in a two day long gunfight in Nowgam sector near the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district.
An army official said that two more militants have been killed in a two day long encounter which has started in Nowgam sector from past two days.
Two militants were killed yesterday and now the gunfight has ended today in the densely forested area of Nowgam sector near the LoC, the official said.
Meanwhile Srinagar based defence spokesperson Col N N Joshi told early times that, six militants have been killed in two separate encounters which started in north Kashmir from past two days.
Four militants have been eliminated in Nowgam sector that had recently infiltrated to this side of Line of Control (LoC), while as two militants were killed today morning in Tangmarag area, the total no of killed militants has reached to six, said Col Joshi.
He said the soldier killed in the Nowgam sector has been identified as Havaldar Hangpang Dada of Borduria village of Arunachal Pradesh.
War like store has been recovered from the site of operations from both the places, and the encounter has been called off, Spokesperson added.
