The Kumbh Mela congregation in Ujjain was an occasion witnessing religious as well as political discussions in the camps, where people across the India from all over the States gathered to take holly dip in sacred river Kshipra, on 21st May 2016, the last 'Shahi Bath' of the on going Kumbh occasion at Ujjain. The people taking refuge in various shed accommodations arranged by MP Govt., social organizations as well as Religious Akharas, were also places witnessing the discussions on the performance of the central as well as State Governments. As a pilgrimage from J&K, it was an occasion to interact with the real voters of the India, a large number of which comprises from rural India and middle class from urban India. Our knowledge about the performance of central government across the States is influenced by the news reporting, political discussions among spokes persons of different political parties on TV networks and the propaganda of various schemes and their benefits to common people. Because of this knowledge we conclude the performance of the various governments. But one to one discussion and real benefits trickled down to common man can only be judged and felt when people express their feelings during such religious congregations. The curiosity to know the feelings of the common man at Ujjain about the performance of NDA government, the occasion was best utilized. The 70% of the people with whom interaction was held, were not aware of any scheme launched by Modi government. This folk percentage was from very interior rural pockets of the various States. About much hyped scheme of Swatch Bharat Abhiyan, it was made to understand that in very few village schools, toilets have been constructed as a show piece but is not in working conditions due to non availability of water even for drinking but to talk of toilet facility. This scheme was found to be total failure and huge dumps of garbage were found in every nook and corner of various villages of States such as Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Utter Pradesh and Uttara Khand, which were traversed by our group in chartered Bus as a religious tour to Kurukshetar in Haryana, Omkareshvar & Ujjain in MP, Pushkar in Rajsthan, Varindaban and Gokul in Uttra Pradesh and Hardwar in Uttara Khand. This Abhiyan appear to be a concern of some leaders from particular party only to clean the places to befool the public, when such places require no cleaning, It is confined to a mere show on TVs and news papers. Introspection is required towards this scheme instead of wasting the tax payer's amount, as this scheme has become a mockery and a style of 'chamchagiri' for leaders towards Modi ji. Majority of the people gathered at Ujjain from across the country were speaking against the Modi government and were cursing this government by calling names in befooling them. They were found praying to God to dethrone this government which has brought only sufferings for the common man by inflations in all the requirements of daily use. They all with one voice rose that Modi government is in news channels because of its hollow schemes with fantastic nomenclatures only, which sound well in pronounce without any practical results on ground. It was also revealed that even the lowest cadre of RSS and VHP throughout India under patronage of the Modi Government is creating hell for the common man, who does not adhere to their dictates.
The people were found expressing their concern that they become aware through TV and news papers that Crores of rupees stand sanctioned for their welfare and development in their area but where this amount has gone is not known to them, as nothing in practical has come down for their welfare or any development in their villages. The urban folk revealed that big business houses are the main beneficiaries of this government rest are the common sufferers. Open loot was witnessed alongside NHWs in all the six States traversed from packaged drinking water, tea to meals.
The Rajasthan police particularly in Jaipur are always pouncing upon the non State buses and harasses to the maximum on pretext of one or another non issue. They forcibly enter the buses to extract money by threatening one way or the other. The thousand crores of rupees claimed to be spent by Madhya Pradesh Government on Ujjain Kumbh Mela does not appear to be spent on ground for public convenience. What practically observed were only sufferings for the common visitors? With converting the open fields of locals to parking lots providing tin sheds without any facility of water, meal, medical facility in scorching heat of above 48 temperatures. A huge jamming of traffic on Ujjain roads for hours together was common feature without visibility of single man from administration to manage this jamming. The police deployed on Ram Ghat especially were treating the pilgrims like wild animals and were using batons to prevent them from proceeding towards the Ghat. The administration was much worried to provide all facility to few thousands of Akhara Sadhus rather than caring for crores of common people. In simple words all claims of MP Government in smooth conduct of Ujjain Kumbh are hollow claims and expenses on this occasion are on papers only. Similarly one of the Jyotirlingam sites of 'Omkareshvar' has also been converted into personal property of the pujaris and is only money minting press for these pujaries, least caring for the sentiments of the visitors. Inhuman treatment is meted out by these pujaris, whose concern is only collection of money. You have to queue for hours together in routine but by spending few hundreds to touts and agents you can manage the 'Darshan' within ten minutes.
This practice flourish with the active connivance of pujaris and local police deployed to manage the affairs. In a nutshell the conversation with the people of all walks of life and from all corners of India, what perceived is that the power at the center has practically been achieved by BJP by hollow slogans, hollow promises and buttery dreams throughout the population of country and people are now fed up with this government and waiting for the occasion to teach the lesson already taught to Congress.
