Early Times Report Jammu, May 28: Excise Department sleuths today destroyed 1,600 ltrs of Lahan (illicit liquor) and illegal 'poppy cultivation' in separate raids of Kathua, Jammu and Doda district. According to spokesperson, during raids by the teams headed by ETO Kathua Sandeep Kumar and by ETO Eradication, Jammu Suresh Sharma about 1,600 kg of Lahan was destroyed and 39 bottles, 140 pouches illicit liquor prepared from Lahan were also recovered and destroyed. "To check the menace of illicit distillation, bootlegging and smuggling of liquor, the Excise Department has intensified raids in villages of Kathua and Jammu," he said, adding, "The team conducted series of raids in villages Sherpur, Dhabwal, Saktachak, Barnoti, Banyari, Chartyale, Budhi and adjoining areas of Kathua while Excise Range Jammu South along with the Excise Eradication Wing Jammu conducted series of raids in R.S.Pura and Bishnah to arrest the menace of illicit distillation of liqour. "The excise sleuths conducted series of raids in villages Deoli, Makhanpur, Tarachak, Haslachak, Shibuchak, Shiekhpura, Kotla, and adjoining areas in Jammu, he added. He said that in the process 1600 liters of Lahan, 39 bottles, 140 pouches illicit liquor prepared from Lahan, which is highly injurious to health, was recovered by the raiding teams and later destroyed on spot." One working unit (still) was also destroyed by the raiding team in R.S. Pura area, he said. Meanwhile, the Excise Sleuths of Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban Excise Range on a specific complaint of poppy cultivation in the area raided the higher reaches of Chatroo (Passerkote). The team under the command of Excise Inspector, Towsif Mustafa conducted the raid and in the process poppy crop on five kanals of land was destroyed. |
