Rs 20.83 Cr spent on Batote-Kishtwar NH fail to restore sheen to road
GoI yet to clear Rs. 95.30 Cr up-gradation plan to repair sunk NH

Srinagar, May 29: Despite spending Rs. 20.83 Crore for repair and restoration of damages on Kishtwar-Batote stretch o Jammu-Kshtwar National Highway which is the only road connectivity to twin Districts of Doda and Kishtwar having population of more than 7 lacs is in shamble as the highway has sunken at many places due to heavy rains and flesh flood during the month of September 2014 and March-April 2015 .
In reply to Q No. 25 of MLA Inderwal Ghulam Mohammad Saroori with regard to the steps taken by the government for restoration of Kishtwar-Batote National Highway and the physical/financial achievements sofar in this behalf, the government reply stated that immediate steps were taken to restore the road by providing motor path by removing heavy slips and also restoration of damaged/sinking stretches, works amounting to Rs. 8.93 crores were executed up to September-October 2015. In addition to this, the government spent Rs. 12 Crores on 40 most vulnerable identified spots by construction o R/Walls, Brest walls and pucca drains.
In reply to the question on present status of the road and expected date of completion of the restoration works, the government reply stated that Batote-Kishtwar-Sinthan Pass Khanbal road was declared as National Highway NH-1B (Now NH-244) by Ministry of Road Transport and Highways on 12-10-2000 added that the road has sunk and damage at many places and as a result o which the road has become a single lane at many stretches. The government stated that an estimate to the tune of Rs. 95.30 Crores have been submitted by the state PWD to ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Government o India or approval and funding added that as soon as the funds will be release by the Union Government, the restoration works will be taken in hand in full swing.
