Jammu, May 29: SKUAST-Jammu organized one day field programme on demonstration of IPM techniques for farmers of village Panjore (Kanhachak) and Pandorian (Mishriwalla) and distributes IPM kits to farmers under NABARD funded project entitled "Scientific intervention for validation and popularization of traps for management of insect pests in vegetable growing areas of Jammu Region here today. According to press release, Dr. Devinder Sharma, Principal Investigator of the project while interacting with the farmers emphasized the need to adopt the preventive and scientific methods to manage insect-pests of vegetable crops. Dr. Devinder Sharma also demonstrated on the use of Pheromone traps, Yellow sticky traps and Fruit fly traps in vegetable. Dr. AK Singh, Co-PI of the project emphasized the importance of IPM in the significance of cultural, mechanical and biological methods of pest management. Dr. V. Kaul, Professor and Head, Division of Entomology stressed that through the use of eco-friendly trap based methods in brinjal, tomato and cucurbits the pesticide load on these crops will be reduced and aware the farmers to adopt organic farming which promotes and enhances agro-eco system of health including bio diversity, biological cycles and soil biological activity. |
