Early Times Report

Jammu, May 29: With one month left for the retirement of incumbent Medical Superintendent (MS) of Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu, politically affluent have started lobbying hard to get the coveted chair in the premier hospital of the state.
Reliable Sources told Early Times that Dr. Manoj Chalotra, presently MS Chest and Diseases (CD) Hospital, Dr Romesh Gupta, MS Super Specialty Hospital (SSH), Dr. Narinder Bhutyal, MS District Hospital Udhampur, Dr. Arun Sharma, MS District Hospital Samba and CMO Jammu Ravinder Khajuria are front runners in the race and each one of them is making all out efforts to succeed the incumbent.
ET also learnt that besides the doctors who have the requisite qualification, several others despite being ineligible for the post are exploring their political contacts to get the prize posting through the backdoor, despite government's repeated pronouncements of no political interference in the administrative decisions. Sources also disclosed that some senior officers in GMCH and health deptt administration are also tossing certain names of their own blue eyed doctors.
"The post would not be filled immediately after retirement of current MS going by the attitude of State Health and Medical Department" a senior doctors of the hospital said adding that the post Dy MS in Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh (SMGS) Hospital, post of Dy MS in Super Specialty Hospital Jammu and same post in CD Hospital are lying vacant for last few years but nothing has been done to fill up the vacant posts for the smooth functioning of the hospitals.
"The Department is least bothered to set things right and instead it has been compromising with hospitals' functioning by not following the criteria for appointment," they stated and said some ineligible persons were posted at these hospitals.
